Open Steak and Onion Toastie

  • 1 teaspoon oil
  • salt & pepper
  • 200g porterhouse steak
  • 1 brown onion, thinly sliced
  • 3 tablespoons Beerenberg Toastie Relish
  • 2 slices good quality bread, toasted
  • 6 slices cheddar cheese
  • Small handful rocket
  • fried egg, optional


Heat a frypan on medium heat and add the oil. Generously season the steak with salt and pepper, and add to the frypan.  Cook for 3 minutes before turning for another 2 minutes.  Remove the steak from the pan.  In the same frypan, add the onion and cook for 2 minutes.  Turn the heat to low and add the Beerenberg Toastie Relish.  Cook for another 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, before removing from the heat.

Slice the steak into about 10 pieces.  Upon each piece of bread, layer the cheddar cheese, onions, sliced steak, rocket, and fried egg.
